it can record "dvd quality" video which is defined as 640x480 at 30fps. it's more about the frame rate than the resolution. but i agree it's not quite dvd quality in practice
Thanks @cybette ! I knew there had to be a valid reason. So, the N95 has the right 'numbers', but it's the limitations of the hardware (as in what you can physically put in a handset) such as optics etc which are the reasons why it's not "crystal clear" so to speak? Would I be correct in assuming that?

Yeah, just like in a digital camera, megapixels aren't everything. Sensors, optics, pre-processing, post-processing can all affect resultant quality

I think technically you need 720 scan lines ... not just 30fps. Ah Marketing ...
